Leading the team for years is the phenomenal sharpshooter Steph Curry, one of the finest players to grace the NBA.

The Golden State Warriors

The hottest team in the city in recent years, the Golden State under coach Steve Kerr and superstar Steph Curry, is the best team in the NBA, even at LeBron James' peak. The team has won 4 championships in recent years, the latest in 2022, and regularly makes it to the Western Conference Finals. The team was founded in Philadelphia in 1946 and moved to San Francisco in 1962. It has won a total of seven championships, making it the third most decorated team in the league after the Boston Celtics and the Los Angeles Lakers.

The team's current home stadium is the new Chase Center in the Mission Bay neighborhood, south of the SoMa district and the Oracle Park baseball stadium. The team returned to San Francisco from Oakland in 2019, where it played at the Oracle Arena. The stadium has a capacity of 18 thousand spectators, and it's somewhat challenging to get tickets, mainly because the team is one of the most attractive shows in American sports in recent years.

Baseball in San Francisco

The San Francisco Giants

The Giants are one of the oldest teams in the league. The well-known New York-based team was founded in 1883 and had a deep rivalry for half a century with their city rivals, the Brooklyn Dodgers. A few years later, both teams moved to California, with the Dodgers going to Los Angeles and the Giants to San Francisco. The Giants are among the most decorated teams in the MLB with eight World Series titles, the most recent in 2014.

The team plays at Oracle Park's baseball stadium, located in the southern part of the SoMa district, not far from downtown San Francisco. The park holds 42,000 spectators. Giants games are popular, but getting tickets is generally not a problem, except for advanced playoff games.

Home Stadium Address: Willie Mays Plaza 24, San Francisco, at King St & 2nd St station on the red or blue trolley line.

The Oakland Athletics

The Oakland city team is one of the decorated teams in the league with a vast history and a somewhat less impressive present. The A's, as they are fondly called, have won no less than 9 championships, five of which were when they still played in Philadelphia and four after moving to Oakland in 1968. Between 1955 and the move to Oakland, they played in Kansas City.

The team plays at the Oakland Coliseum, the magnificent baseball field adjacent to the Oracle Arena in the southern part of the city. The team is currently considered one of the weakest in the league, and there is no problem getting tickets to their games. The stadium has a capacity of 46,000 spectators.

Home stadium address: 7000 S Coliseum Wy., Oakland, Coliseum Station, in the BART system, on the blue and green lines from Market Street in downtown San Francisco.

The San Francisco 49ers

The 49ers are one of the most prestigious football teams in the NFL. The team was established in 1946 and joined the professional league about four years later. It is named after the immigrants who came to the city in 1849 at the height of the Gold Rush. The team has won five Super Bowls, the last one in 1994. Nonetheless, it's a strong team that often makes it to the playoffs, and in 2019, they reached the Super Bowl where they lost to the Kansas City Chiefs.

The team plays at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, about a 45-minute drive from downtown, not far from San Jose. The stadium holds 68,500 spectators. It's worth making a special trip to Santa Clara for a 49ers game, as the team is very popular among the city's residents, and the football experience in America is quite unique. Additionally, the season occurs during winter, and most games are played in freezing cold, though the weather in San Francisco is relatively mild.
