The city of Seattle is a unique tourist destination in the United States. Known as the Emerald City, it combines iconic American culture such as grunge music with a sophisticated atmosphere rooted in the large German population that settled there.
Surrounding the city are emerald forests at the foot of the stunning Mount Rainier, one of the tallest mountains in the U.S. (excluding the peaks in Alaska). Downtown Seattle is famous for the Pike Place Market, the city’s rare farmers’ market. Below the market is the waterfront along Elliott Bay, featuring the giant Ferris wheel and the aquarium.
To the north, at Seattle Center—the site of the 1962 World’s Fair—is a rare collection of pavilions and museums, crowned by the Space Needle, the city’s iconic tower.
